Ovulation Period For Pregnancy

Ovulation and pregnancy are very much connected. But before we proceed, we will be giving you the details of ovulation and then how it is connected to pregnancy.

Ovulation

It occurs when an egg is released from your ovary, it is also a part of menstrual cycle.

Ovulation is when a mature egg is released from the ovary, the egg will then move down to the fallopian tube where it can be fertilized. If the sperm are in the fallopian tube when the egg is released, there will be a good chance that the egg will be fertilized, creating an embryo, which can grow into a baby.

When it occurs

Ovulation normally happens around day 14 of a 28-day menstrual cycle. However, not everyone has a textbook 28-day cycle, so the exact timing can vary.

Generally, ovulation occurs in the four days before or four days after your cycle’s midpoint.

Pregnancy is normally possible if you have sex during the five days before ovulation or on the day of ovulation. But the most fertile days are the three days leading up to and including ovulation. Having sex during this period provides a higher chance of getting pregnant.

After your fertile window or ovulation period, your chances of getting pregnant will become very low.

The ‘fertile window’ is the days in a woman’s menstrual cycle when pregnancy is possible. The ‘fertile window’ depends on the length of the menstrual cycle, which varies among women.

The process of ovulation

The process of ovulation begins with your body’s release of (FSH) “follicle-stimulating hormone”. Typically between day 6 and 14 of your menstrual cycle. This hormone helps the egg inside your ovary to mature in preparation to release the egg later.

Once the egg is mature, your body releases a surge of (LH) “luteinizing hormone” triggering the egg’s release. Ovulation may happen in the 28 to 36 hours of trusted Source after the LH surge.

How does ovulation look like?

It is a discharge that looks like a raw white egg, colorless and odorless, can be a little thick than the raw white egg.

But after ovulation the discharge can be decreased in volume and appear more cloudier and thicker

Other causes of ovulation

  • Light bleeding or spotting
  • Breast tenderness
  • Increased sexual drive

The truth is that;

A woman can only get pregnant on a few days during her menstrual cycle.

Why?

The eggs and sperm only live for a short time.

Sperm live for around 3 to 5 days, eggs can only be fertilized for around 24 hours, which is one day after being released from the ovary.

Eggs and sperm need to come together at the right time for fertilization to happen to create an embryo.

How to know when you’re ovulating

Knowing when you ovulate can help you plan for sex at the right time in order to improve your chance of getting pregnant. You can keep track of your menstrual cycles on a chart, in a diary, or on a free period-tracker app on your smart phone. Or you can record it on a paper with your biro, in order to know your cycle.

To work out the length of your menstrual cycle, record the first day you start bleeding (first day of your period). This is day 1. The last day of your cycle is the day before your next period begins.

You can now see that ovulation and pregnancy works together, and to achieve one you must achieve the other.

Drop your comments if you have any.
