Fallon Sherrock has recalled getting some important guidance from darts great Michael van Gerwen during her historic World Championship performance. Sherrock is still known as the Queen of the Palace thanks to her blockbuster run at Alexandra Palace in 2019.
She beat Ted Evetts in round one to become the first woman to beat a male player at the PDC’s marquee tournament. Sherrock then defeated former World Matchplay runner-up Mensur Suljovic before eventually losing to Chris Dobey in round three.
For a spell that Christmas, Sherrock was one of the most in-demand stars in the world, receiving a deluge of requests and even getting messages from sporting legends like Billy Jean King. However, the clamour for her time became overwhelming, prompting three-time world champion Van Gerwen to intervene
That’s why I keep saying we need more opportunities to play against the men because doing so will make our game better. I think female players might be scared to play against men on a regular basis.
“They’re comfortable just staying in their own little league and they’re happy just to compete against each other. If they pushed themselves then they’d see just how much their game could actually improve.”
