DART OF WAR Darts could face major broadcast changes with Luke Littler and co leaving Sky Sports
The sport has since become a money-making powerhouse with new stars such as Littler and Luke Humphries emerging.
However, PDC chairman Barry Hearn has expressed uncertainty over the future of darts on Sky. PDC Darts broadcast deal ends next year.
While Hearn appreciates Sky’s loyalty over the past two decades, he believes his company should get a better deal.
The boss asserts that other sports broadcasted by Sky receive a significant portion of the profits.
Humphreys received £500,000 for his victory at this year’s World Championship. By comparison, when Dennis Priestley won a similar competition in 1994 he received just £16,000 in prize money.
But Hearn believes today’s talented darts players deserve much more for their efforts. Is your offer expiring soon? Practical, very practical. Isn’t timing the key to everything, you know?
“Hey, we owe Sky a huge, huge debt.” They stuck with us from the very beginning, and loyalty is important in our business.
